What you are looking at is a 1988 GQ series Nissan Patrol. This truck just landed from Australia and is ready to go off roading with its new owner. For those not familiar, the Nissan Patrol has been called "Australias toughest truck", and has been sold for years in other countries where durability and reliability are necessities. It has a reputation for a bulletproof drivetrain that few other vehicles can match. The Patrol was also the first car to brave the Outback having crossed the Simpson Desert in 1962. The correct year is not recognized as it is a non U.S. truck. I used the actual VIN but had to list it as a 1980.
This is the first year of the GQ series. It features solid axles both front and rear, a 4.11 gear ratio with a factory limited slip rear end. This Patrol has the TB42 engine, a petrol powered 4.2 liter straight six mated to a 5 speed manual gear box. This engine actually has more horsepower and torque than the non turbo diesel. It has an aftermarket 3 inch lift kit with 33 inch off road tires. As you can see from the pictures, it has three rows of seating, with the rearmost set being both forward folding and removable. There is also the factory rear sway bar release which allows increased suspension articulation from the drivers seat. A CB radio has been installed, along with a Clarion CD/DVD player. The carb has been recently rebuilt, the coil, plugs, cap and rotor have all been replaced, as well as a new radiator being fitted a short time back. It drives perfectly. The engine is smooth with torque right from idle. This truck has manual windows, with working sliders in the very back. You don't really need to open them though as it has ice cold air conditioning. These also have provisions for dual batteries, but it currently has just one. Did I mention its right hand drive?
Now, keep in mind this is not a show car. It has a number of dents and scratches from off roading. Nothing serious and is in overall great shape. There are a few issues to mention. The drivers seat has worn through on the outside bolster, aside from that the upholstery is quite good. The headliner is perfect, and the dash is uncracked. Under the hood, there are two spots of rust on the firewall. Neither is a structural issue, and can be pretty easily repaired if desired. The radiator overflow container will be replaced before it sells, so please ignore that in the pictures. The odometer is also in kilometers, so I converted that to the actual mileage requirement for the ad.
This truck was legally imported under the 25 year law and is Federally legal for U.S. roads. It has not been registered yet, so that honor will go to the new owner. All importation paperwork will be included with the sale. The Patrol is here in San Diego, California and could easily be driven right into the desert. Some of the pictures you see are from an outing at the Otay Truck Trail in southern San Diego. I am happy to help with transportation and am even flexible on storing the truck for a short time if needed. I expect full payment within two business days. I can take cash, bank transfer, or Paypal if the buyer pays fees.
This is a great opportunity. We here in the U.S. did not get these awesome trucks after 1969. And there have only been a few brought in thus far. Desert season is right around the corner, and this will really stand out at any event. Tired of all the Landcruisers and Jeeps? Here is your answer. Not only more capable but more unique too. As for parts, I can get anything you might want. I have contacts in both Australia and Japan and can have just about everything sent over. My reserve is lower than an average Landcruiser will be, and my buy it now is pretty reasonable too. Thanks for your time.
